ORANGERY for a COUNTRY VILLA

“Dear Russell, I wanted to write and let you know we have now furnished the Orangery and are enjoying using it. It has completely changed the orientation of the house and it has been a delight it sits there. The views over the garden are fantastic. So far it has been wonderfully cool in the heat. We are using the terrace all day long. Quite right the Orangery has attracted much praise with many favourable comments”.

FAMILY HOME REFURBISHMENT in Greenwich

“We went to the RIBA website and made a shortlist of people who did the sort of project we were undertaking. We Knew from the Russell Taylor Architects website that Russell was good at old buildings, and ours is an old building.   Russell has a very calming approach. He is unflappable! His knowledge and understanding of the Listed Building rules and how they are/should be applied was absolutely vital. The usually very difficult Conservation Officers at Greenwich Council bowed to his expertise.     We also greatly appreciated help prom the practice with working out how to create enough bathrooms and how to get pipes to be invisible and lead to one wall where we have downpipes. Without Russell’s very practical mind the builder would have got us to have an awful macerator toilet; after this example of lateral thinking my husband and I felt empowered to approach the project with this same problem-solving attitude, which was a useful thing to learn “

THE NARTHEX of Norwich Cathedral of St John

“I would like to draw your reader’s attention to an architectural gem recently opened in Norwich.    This is the Narthex extension to St John’s Catholic Cathedral.   Here is a building human in scale, showing craftsmanship of a high order, with superb detailing, designed clearly by an architect who understands the play of light on surface. It cleverly incorporates an existing hall into the new building and by including the shop formerly situated incongruously in the cathedral, restores the integrity of St. John. All in all, it is a welcome addition to our architectural heritage.“

NEW CORNISH VILLA

“This was a complicated assignment requiring to houses to be joined. We were looking for an architect with a vision of what the whole would look like. We chose Russell Taylor because we were impressed with their flair and design skills.  We were also impressed with how they were able to work with our ideas and translate and mould them into the overall plans.       The firm greatly surpassed our high expectations. Their drawings were very imaginative and exciting. They spent a lot of time on site and their sharp eyes spotted any short cuts the builders took. Equally they were pragmatic with regard to any building difficulties encountered by the builders and structural surveyors.       We were delighted with Russell Taylor’s work from first to last. This house is a monument to a superb architect and a very good builder.”

NEWHAM

A New Cornish Country House

“This was a major project (over £1 million) and Russell was clear sighted throughout about the huge potential of the property. All his ideas gelled into producing a harmonious whole. Sensitive to the views of his client but provides excellent independent advice. Terrific attention to detail from initial drawings to supervision of the builder. Planning Permission was expected to be a problem but his creativity and focus on the issue secured a successful result. If we could not envisage his idea, he would create a model of life size drawings which were hugely helpful.

Established a good professional relationship with the builder but was quick to spot even small issues which were corrected in good time. He finished two years ago but we still say how lucky we were to find him.”

NORTHBOURNE ROAD

Extension and Refurbishment of semi-detached villa

“We worked with Russell Taylor Architects for around 2 years through the design, planning and build of our semi-detached villa restoration and extension. The planning process was handled professionally and successfully due to their expert knowledge of these conservation buildings. They were instrumental in finding us an excellent team of builders and the project went as efficiently and we could have hoped. They brought expertise and knowledge far beyond out scope of design and we were able to use modern technology and incorporate these features without losing the period style we had come to love. We learned so much with the team at Russell Taylor Architects, they are experts in their field. They often used hand drawn ideas which enabled us to be much more creative than the usual CAD only skilled architect. We would have no reservation in recommending them to anyone interested in good design and style.”

DOUGHTY STREET

Restoration of a Georgian London Town House

“I have to thank Russell Taylor Architects for the successful refurbishment work that was carried out on my Grade II listed home. I was particularly impressed by their knowledge and skills relating to older buildings, as well as their thoroughness and dependability. silvia and Russell were easy to talk with, explaining each stage of the renovation in a clear and precise manner and were always at the other end of the phone, if i had concerns. I am very pleased with the end result, they have turned a tired building into a beautiful home, highlighting and bringing back to life its original character. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who had a property that needed renovating.”

Large extension of a Cornish Manor

“For a major rebuild project the relationship with your architect is vital. We had a vision and budget but did not have the architectural skills needed to make it all happen. Russell was immediately responsive to our ideas and at the same time out a unique slant on the project due to his wide experience working with historic buildings. It was also an advantage that he worked in both London & Cornwall as he brought local knowledge and perspective combined with a broader view having worked on projects in many geographical locations. He was very helpful in all the negotiations with English Heritage and our local listed buildings officer. Its also all about teamwork and Silvia and Faisal gave splendid back up and were always responsive in a timely fashion. They also were able to provide advice regarding suppliers and contractors from experience with previous projects. Unfortunately, our builders went bankrupt at the final stage of the project, nothing to do with us!, so we are not completely finished but hope to be so in the next few weeks. However, the end result is amazing, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Russell and his team, in fact we have already done so to other friends and they have taken him on for a similar renovation project.”

NEW TUDOR PALACE

“I’m only a humble taxi driver but every time I stop at the lights, that building gives me such pleasure. Not many modern buildings do that. I could just imagine Henry VIII walking out of it”

ODSEY HOUSE

REDESIGN OF A GARDEN ROOM

“I am very pleased with the garden rooms. You have all contributed to turn a difficult space into a great set of rooms, which become even more impressive when the evening is turning to night. But most importantly the length of time and flexibility this area can be enjoyably used during the year has been dramatically extended. The before and after photos clearly show how much work was done sympathetically to the bricks. Also, you don’t realise how bad something is (the doors) until you are shown something better! Thank you very much. “

A GEORGIAN OFFICE

“From the comments made to me I fear you may have set the benchmark for building projects of this type for the Diocese. They simply could not get over the fact that we achieved so much, in so short a time and on budget. On behalf of the Rector and myself, our sincere thanks again for the contribution you each made “
